Best Serums & Actives for Sensitive Skin

Serums and treatments are where skincare can make the biggest difference — brighter tone, smoother texture, fewer breakouts, calmer skin, deeper hydration. But for sensitive or hormonally reactive skin, many “active” formulas are simply too harsh, too fragranced, or too gimmicky to deliver results.

At Conscious Glow, I only recommend serums and actives that:

  • Perform well on real, changing skin — including hormonal shifts, sensitivity, and ageing concerns
  • Use well-studied ingredients with a track record in sensitive skin (such as niacinamide, peptides, ceramides, vitamin C derivatives, or bakuchiol)
  • Avoid ingredients on the Glow-No List™ (including undisclosed fragrance/parfum, cyclic silicones, parabens, and known irritants)

👉 How to read the Conscious Glow Scale:

Ingredient alignment and performance are assessed separately.
This scale reflects ingredient standards only.

🟢 Clean — fully aligned

Fragrance-free, essential-oil-free, and free from Glow-No ingredients.
Designed for high tolerance and consistent use on sensitive or reactive skin.

🟡 Clean-ish — context matters

Avoids Glow-No ingredients but may include clearly disclosed trade-offs such as essential oils, botanical fragrance allergens, phenoxyethanol (≤1%), or mild functional synthetics.

🔴 Not Recommended

Includes one or more ingredients from the Glow-No List™.
Not shown on this page — included elsewhere only for transparency or education.

Products are ordered from Clean through Clean-ish, with clear caveats so you can choose based on tolerance and goals.

💲 Budget Serums & Actives (<$25)

The Ordinary: Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (~$10 USD)Rating: 🟡 Clean-ish — contains phenoxyethanolStill one of the most effective budget actives ever created. It balances oil, calms redness, and helps keep congestion under control. Lightweight, no fragrance, no essential oils — just a simple formula that works.

It is brilliant for hormonal breakouts, enlarged pores, and dullness. The one caveat is the preservative system (phenoxy), which shifts it to Clean-ish. If you’re not phenoxy-sensitive, it’s a fantastic everyday staple.
