Glow-No List™
Clean beauty ingredients can be confusing — because “clean” can mean almost anything.
At Conscious Glow, we skip fear-mongering and green-washing. The Glow-No List™ is our clear, no-BS framework for deciding what we avoid completely and what we allow consciously.
If an ingredient raises credible concerns for skin health, hormonal balance, or environmental impact, it’s on the Glow-No List™. If it’s clean, stable, and transparently disclosed — but comes with trade-offs — it may earn a Clean-ish pass.
Because ingredient integrity and real-world performance aren’t the same thing, we always assess them separately. This list focuses on ingredients — not whether a product delivers glow.
This exists to help you make informed choices without panic, perfectionism, or ingredient policing.

In plain English: If it clogs pores, messes with hormones, weakens the barrier, or trashes the planet — we don’t recommend it.
🟡 Clean-ish Ingredients
Clean but not fully neutral — Always Disclosed
Some ingredients aren’t problematic or toxic, but they introduce trade-offs.
These may include synthetics that support texture, stability, or preservation, or natural ingredients like essential oils that add fragrance and variability.
We allow Clean-ish ingredients only when they serve a clear purpose, are used thoughtfully, and are fully transparent— so readers can decide what works for them without guessing.
| Ingredient / Category | Why It’s Used | Our Approach |
| Fragrance / Parfum (Natural, Naturally-Derived, Safe Synthetic) | Creates scent / sensory experience | Allowed only when phthalate-free, and fully transparent. Must disclose EU allergens. Hidden or undefined parfum = Glow-No. |
| Phenoxyethanol (≤ 1 %) | Broad-spectrum preservative | Allowed below 1 %; clearly disclosed + never paired with fragrance |
| Linear Silicones (e.g. Dimethicone) | Adds slip + protects barrier | Acceptable for performance; flagged Clean-ish for eco reasons |
| PEGs / Polysorbates | Stabilise formulas / texture | Allowed if low 1,4-dioxane + transparent supplier data |
| Benzyl Alcohol / Ethylhexylglycerin | Gentle preservative system | Safe under 1 %; balanced with natural preservatives |
| Essential Oils (< 1 %) | Light scent + skin benefits | Allowed if non-sensitising + clearly listed |
| Palm / Petroleum Derivatives | Emollients / emulsifiers | Only from certified sustainable sources |
| Mica / Colorants | Adds glow + pigment | Ethically mined + heavy-metal tested |
| Zinc / Titanium Nanoparticles | UV protection | Allowed in non-inhalable SPFs; monitored for safety |
| Beeswax / Lanolin / Honey | Texture + hydration | Accepted only from humane, sustainable sources |

How We Review Products
Every product on Conscious Glow is assessed across two separate lenses:
Ingredients
- 🟢 Clean
- 🟡 Clean-ish
- 🔴 Not Recommended
Performance
- ✨ Glow
- ⛔ No Glow
This allows us to say what most platforms won’t:
- Clean, but no glow
- Works well, with ingredient trade-offs
- Effective — but not something we’d recommend
Because honesty matters more than hype.
In Plain English
Conscious Glow isn’t about perfection — it’s about informed confidence.
When you understand what we don’t recommend, what comes with trade-offs, and what’s truly clean, you don’t glow stricter.
You glow smarter.
